The promises we make before you sign anything

Four things we put in writing — today, before we ever ask you for money.

  • support_agent

    Free for students, full stop

Consultation, university shortlisting, SOP writing, application support, visa prep — all of it free. You will never receive an invoice from Lanka Scholar.

  • school

Universities pay us — not you

When you enrol with one of our partner universities, they pay us a referral commission. That is our entire business model. Your money only goes to the university (tuition) and the embassy (visa fees), never to Lanka Scholar.

  • handshake

    One counsellor, start to finish

The senior counsellor you meet on day one is the same person who walks you through your visa interview. No handoffs, no junior staff inheriting your file.

  • storefront

Walk in to any of our 4 offices

Colombo head office for face-to-face meetings, or our branches in Jaffna, Matara, and Batticaloa. Real address, real desk, real counsellor — no virtual-only operation.

Questions families ask before booking a call

Don't see yours below? WhatsApp a counsellor — replies usually within an hour, weekdays.

  • How much does it cost to study abroad from Sri Lanka? expand_more
Depends on the country. A Master's in the UK or Australia typically runs LKR 4–7M per year all-in (tuition + living). Public universities in Germany are closer to LKR 1–1.5M per year. On the first call we shortlist destinations that fit your family budget — see /cost-of-studying for full breakdowns by country and city.
  • How early should I start the process? expand_more
Plan on 6–9 months end-to-end: 2–3 months for shortlisting and applications, 1–2 months for offers, and 2–3 months for visa processing. PhD applicants usually need an extra 6–12 months upfront to find and match with a supervisor. For a January 2027 intake, start now. For September 2026, you're cutting it close — chat with a counsellor today.
  • What if I can't decide between countries? expand_more
That's exactly what the first 45-minute call is for. Tell us your level (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD), your academic results, your family budget, and the kind of life you want after graduation — PR pathway, return to Sri Lanka, tax-free salary, etc. We narrow 9 options down to 2–3 that genuinely fit you, with reasoning you can take home to your family.
  • Do I need IELTS for every university? expand_more
No. Many universities accept PTE, TOEFL, Duolingo, or — for some Bachelor's programs — your Sri Lankan O/L English grade with a B or above. Master's and PhD applicants whose undergrad was taught in English often get the language requirement waived entirely with a Medium-of-Instruction letter. We assess your profile first and pick the test path (or no-test path) with the highest acceptance odds.
  • What if my visa gets refused? expand_more
Most rejections we see are for fixable reasons — weak financial documentation, unclear study plans, or a botched interview. If yours gets refused, we identify what went wrong and help you re-apply at no extra cost from us (the embassy will charge its application fee again). Well-prepared Sri Lankan applications have very high approval rates, and prevention is the bulk of our work.
  • Can I bring my parents to the consultation? expand_more
Please do — most of our consultations include the student's parents, sometimes a relative who has studied abroad. Studying overseas is a family decision and a family investment. Walk in to any of our 4 offices for a face-to-face conversation, or join the call together on WhatsApp video.
  • What do you charge? expand_more
Nothing. Lanka Scholar is free for students — from the first call to your visa approval. Universities pay us a referral commission when you enrol with them; that's our entire business model. The only money you'll spend goes directly to the university (tuition) and the embassy (visa fees), both at published rates.
